Overview
The Welder Helper - Sheet Metal position involves assisting experienced welders in preparing materials, operating equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment to support the welding process.
Responsibilities
- Assists Welder I and Welder II in various welding tasks as directed.
- Prepares workpieces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and scraping as necessary.
- Helps set up welding equipment and tools under supervision.
- Handles and stores welding materials and equipment properly.
- Operates power tools and hand tools under guidance.
- Reads and interprets basic welding blueprints and instructions.
- Assists in tack welding components together for final welding.
- Supports Welder I and Welder II in maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Learns and follows safety procedures and guidelines at all times.
- Assists in training and mentoring new helpers as needed.
Requirements
- This is an entry level position.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to operate and maintain production equipment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new processes and technologies.
Additional Information
- Ability to work in manufacturing facilities and regularly be exposed to varying and extreme temperatures, loud noises, dust, chemical fumes, sharp metal objects and heavy forklift traffic.
- This position is designated as a safety-sensitive job and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing.
