Sulzer is a leading engineering company focused on innovation. The Welder/Fitter role involves manufacturing structural steel and platework, heavy machinery, and other fabricated metal products, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment and Welding Machines.
- Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
- Operate manually welding equipment using primarily TIG and some experience with OAW, GTAW, GMAW, and MIG.
- Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of welding, brazing, and soldering equipment.
- Adjust welding heads and tooling according to work specifications.
- Perform self-inspection of parts and work to print.
- Complete and maintain paperwork.
- Check machine for defects and repair if necessary.
- Ensure machine is calibrated and cleaned.
- Lift work piece manually, by forklift, or by overhead crane, positioning and securing against guides and stops.
- Maintain a clean work area, including equipment, work supplies, and materials.
- Comply with safety regulations and participate in the company’s Safe Behavioral Program.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-3 years’ experience in metal fabrication or related work.
- High School Degree or GED.
- Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program is desired.
- Ability to set up and run machinery without supervision.
- Forklift or Crane license considered an asset.
- Trade certification is required.
- Ability to read and interpret production and sales orders.
- Experience in safe use, storage, and disposal of welding rods.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to occupational safety.
- Experienced in using power and hand tools.
- Meticulous and detail-oriented.
- Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
- Able to work independently.
- Highly self-motivated.
