Overview
The Sheet Metal Mechanic Supervisor position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, overseeing work operations and subordinates in the Sheet Metal Section. The role includes full supervisory responsibility for the quality and quantity of work performed in support of the Capitol Building.
Responsibilities
- Participates in planning work schedules and staffing needs.
- Plans use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities, and materials.
- Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences.
- Coordinates work with other supervisors as required.
- Determines the number and types of workers needed for projects.
- Redirects workers and resources for unanticipated work.
- Informs the Branch Chief of the need to revise work schedules.
- Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions.
- Assigns duties and evaluates performance of subordinates.
- Manages the organizational unit's budget and workload.
- Develops performance requirements and ensures understanding of standards.
- Resolves complaints and grievances.
- Plans and establishes overall leave schedules.
- Determines training needs and arranges for accomplishment.
- Sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals.
- Approves recommendations for promotions or reassignments.
- Promotes a positive work environment and employee participation.
- Maintains production reports and records.
- Provides leadership for equal employment opportunity goals.
- Ensures compliance with safety rules and regulations.
- Provides training on Personal Protective Equipment usage.
- Plans, lays out, and develops templates for sheet metal items.
- Evaluates damage and repairs sheet metal components.
- Uses measuring tools for repair and modification.
- Checks systems to determine component faults.
- Lays out and forms sheet metal material according to patterns.
- Uses various tools to join, assemble, and repair components.
