Overview
This position is located in the Facility Support Service of the Maintenance and Repair Section of the El Paso VA Health Care System, where the primary purpose is to perform as a pipefitter responsible for installation, modification, testing, maintenance, repair, inspection, analysis of defects, troubleshooting, and elimination of malfunctions in all piping systems within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Install, modify, test, maintain, repair, inspect, analyze defects, troubleshoot, and eliminate malfunctions in all piping systems.
- Work with high- and low-pressure steam and condensate return systems, natural gas, medical gas systems, domestic and chilled water systems, waste and drainage systems, and water-based fire suppression systems.
- Perform visual examinations and operational tests based on requests from the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor.
- Maintain, modify, and repair medical gas piping, outlets, fittings, manifolds, and systems.
- Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot plumbing fixtures including toilets, urinals, sinks, lavatories, bathtubs, showers, and safety equipment.
- Maintain, repair, replace, and install sanitary and storm waste lines, vent lines, and drainage lines.
- Assist other trades in diagnosing and repairing piping problems in hospital systems.
- Clean and secure job sites and tools after completing work.
- Open and close work orders to account for time, materials, and work accomplished.
- Maintain documentation of inspections, repairs, and work performed as part of equipment histories.
- Determine if systems are unreliable or unsafe and arrange for repairs.
- Follow all applicable safety precautions and apply Lockout/Tag out (LOTO) procedures.
- Keep users updated on repairs and schedule non-emergent repairs to minimize outages.
- Obtain and maintain certification as a Backflow Repair Assembly Tester within one year of hire.
Requirements
- Journeyman pipefitter certification.
- Certification as a medical gas installer with yearly recertification.
- Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds).
- Ability to work in uncomfortable positions and from heights.
- Licensed Backflow Repair Assembly Tester within one year of hire.
Additional Information
- Work schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm, subject to change based on agency needs.
- Position may require work during emergencies, inclement weather, holidays, weekends, and rotating shifts.
