Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
- Calculate the dimensions of parts to be welded.
- Examine materials or structures to be welded.
- Join metal parts together in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Adjust heat as needed to avoid overheating.
- Keep welding equipment and machinery in good working order.
- Identify faulty equipment or defective material and report to a supervisor.
Requirements
- Welders need to be precise and pay close attention to detail.
- Welders need to be able to read blueprints, understand spatial reasoning, and interpret 2D and 3D models.
- Welders often need certifications in welding techniques and safety standards.
