Job Description

Overview

The Welder B position involves reading blueprints and operating various welding and metal shaping equipment. The role requires knowledge of welding processes and the ability to evaluate weld quality while maintaining safety and teamwork in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment using processes such as GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and OAW.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment.
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes and shears.
  • Cut metal plates or structural shapes as needed.
  • Conduct tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots from work pieces using grinders or hand tools.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Determine required equipment and welding method based on metallurgy and geometry.
  • Notify supervisor of any quality or safety issues.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Work in other departments on an as-needed basis.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules.
  • Assist in training new employees in safe welding methods.
