Overview
Southland Holdings is seeking an experienced Shop Welder/Fabricator for their Burleson, TX facility. The role involves welding and fabricating metal components for construction and support equipment while adhering to safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Weld pipe, templates, trench boxes, steel piles, and related equipment repairs.
- Read and understand fabrication drawings and specifications from engineering.
- Attend work on the schedule established by the employer and without excessive absenteeism.
- Assist crews as directed when not welding.
- Follow all safe work practices.
- Obtain parts and accurately generate material lists as needed.
- Access areas to be welded by climbing ladders if needed.
- Use disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.
- Operate ARC and MIG welding units and equipment effectively.
- Maintain arc and speed of movement to form specified penetration of structural welding processes.
- Weld in horizontal, vertical, and overhead planes.
- Examine existing welds for bead size and quality specifications.
- Prepare work pieces using grinding or cutting.
- Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
- Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.
- Fabricate new or replacement parts for all types of equipment and structural applications.
- Assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
- Change hoses, fittings, air valves, etc. as needed and clean up the work area daily.
Requirements
- Experience with Stick (ARC) and wire (MIG) welding, pipe, beam fabrication, and fitting.
- Ability to pass pre-employment Weld Test.
- Understand and follow basic welding safety procedures.
- Good work ethic and ability to adjust to change.
- Willingness to be a team player and contribute to the company's success.
- Ability to rig/lift heavy odd-shaped parts safely and effectively.
- Physically capable of navigating rugged terrain.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a work schedule.
- Availability to work overtime.
- Ability to stand, squat, stoop, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
