Overview
The Welder position at Altec involves preparing, assembling, and installing vehicle and chipper components according to specifications. Responsibilities
- Read and interpret schematics and work orders.
- Use basic hand tools and specialty equipment.
- Follow established safety and quality policies.
- Learn and operate all equipment within the work area.
- Perform rework as required.
- Support APS initiatives and participate in RCI events.
- Cross-train and move to other work areas as needed.
- Maintain daily time records.
- Install vehicle and chipper components and accessories.
- Test installed components.
- Demonstrate mastery of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and troubleshooting skills.
- Train new and current associates.
- Complete necessary documentation and paperwork.
- Lay out and mark dimensions on materials using shop math.
- Perform Mig welding using various welding equipment.
- Inspect assembly/components for conformance to specifications.
- Trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces.
- Maintain work area and shop tools/equipment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend required.
- Basic computer usage knowledge required.
- Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics required.
- State Certification (career readiness) desired.
- Proficient knowledge of welding, mechanical, hydraulics, and electrical processes required.
- AWS D.1.1 weld certification required.
- Vocational training is desired.
Additional Information
- Ability to obtain Forklift certificate if required.
- Shift work may be required.
- Knowledge of Altec programs and/or systems.
