Overview
The Rig Welder position involves assembling and welding metal structures for drilling platforms and rigs, ensuring the durability of infrastructures used in oil extraction. Preference is given to qualified local job seekers within 60 miles of the Axis Odessa, TX facility.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to assemble industrial equipment.
- Weld the mast, derrick, and other support infrastructures.
- Weld metal pipes, plates, and other materials to build new structures like storage tanks.
- Inspect welds for strength, durability, and adherence to specifications.
- Assemble and repair pipelines for oil and natural gas companies.
- Weld large structures such as boilers, oil platforms, and ships.
- Maintain and properly store welding equipment.
- Test and inspect vessels and piping systems for leaks or defects.
- Install, repair, troubleshoot, and replace broken valves, joints, or pipes using tools and welding equipment.
- Perform welding duties using wire welding GMAW or SMAW.
- Ensure LDAR repair and compliance assurance.
- Operate computerized welding tools, including plasma cutters and arc welders.
- Study blueprints, sketches, or specifications and calculate dimensions.
- Clean shop/work sites and maintain shop records as specified by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent; Certification from trade or technical school.
- 2-3 years of proven work experience with oil field equipment.
- Experience with Hot Wire Auto Tig Machine/Process GTAW-P.
- Familiarity with SMAW, SAW, and GTAW welding processes.
- Competent in reading and interpreting fabrication blueprints.
- Ability to maintain proper organization of documentation and work areas.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other applications.
- Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.

- Factory environment with a large range in temperature changes.
- Standing, walking, bending/stooping, push/pull, and repetitive movement up to 12 hours daily.
- Lifting weights up to 50 lbs. regularly.
