Overview
The Welder – Fabricator is responsible for performing both fabrication and welding duties in a specialized environment, requiring strong technical skills and independence. This role involves manual TIG welding of various metal thicknesses and materials, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform a balanced workload of welding and fabrication, including layout, forming, fitting, and finishing of parts.
- Work independently as a welder or within a small fabrication team, taking full ownership of jobs from start to finish.
- Set up and layout jobs using blueprints, diagrams, and fixtures following welding and fabrication procedures.
- Perform GTAW (TIG) welding in all positions, including use of rotary turntables for manual welding.
- Set up machines to trim, size, form, and inspect materials to meet fabrication drawing requirements.
- Review drawings for dimensions, weld callouts, materials, and filler selection.
- Prepare weld joints through solvent cleaning, trimming, sizing, and polishing.
- Perform tack welding and fabricate shop aids and fixtures as needed.
- Conduct visual inspections of welds for size, reinforcement, cracks, inclusions, and porosity.
- Use inspection tools such as fillet weld gauges, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Conduct videoscope inspections for root-side weld defects.
- Inspect, maintain, and document preventative maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment.
- Maintain accountability for complete job execution, including fabrication prep, welding, inspection, and final finishing.
- Plan, prioritize, and execute work with minimal supervision to meet production schedules.
- Follow Lean Manufacturing principles, including 5S and general housekeeping.
- Ensure compliance with customer drawings, aerospace quality standards, and internal quality systems.
- Maintain required welding certifications and qualifications.
- Clean work area, tools, and equipment at the end of each shift.
- Independently develop fabrication solutions to complete work efficiently.
- Perform other fabrication-related duties as assigned.

- High attention to detail and strong hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Must be able to pass a Visual Inspection, Tensile Test, and Guided Bend Test within six months of hire.
- Successfully qualify a total of 32 welding coupons within six months of hire.
