Overview

The Facilities Mechanic position at UCLA involves performing routine and semi-skilled maintenance, alterations, and repairs of campus equipment, particularly HVAC systems. The role supports the university's mission by ensuring a thriving environment for students, faculty, and staff through efficient and customer-focused service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and semi-skilled maintenance, alterations, and repairs of campus equipment.
  • Assist journeypersons with installation and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.
  • Assist in the repair of steam lines and vacuum pumps.
  • Operate tools and equipment related to the HVAC trade.
  • Transport materials, clean job sites, and observe good safety practices.
  • Maintain logs of completed tasks.

Requirements

  • 2,000 trade-appropriate documented work experience hours (Preferred).
  • Working knowledge of general HVAC trade practices and procedures (Required).
  • Ability to perform routine and semi-skilled tasks assisting Service Engineers or SOEs (Required).
  • Ability to make minor repairs/installations or perform preventive maintenance on a variety of University equipment/systems (Required).
  • Working knowledge of various hand tools, power equipment, and supplies of the HVAC trade (Required).
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (Required).
  • Skill in working independently or as part of a work crew with minimal direction (Required).
  • Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team (Required).
  • Ability to observe all safety practices (Required).
  • Ability to keep accurate records of work and completed jobs (Required).
  • Must possess a valid CA noncommercial Class C License upon hire (Required).
  • Some schooling trade related with 6-18 CEUs (Preferred).

Additional Information

  • Work schedule is from 6:00AM to 2:30PM.
  • Position is union/policy covered under K4-Skilled Crafts-UCLA.
  • Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation and physical examination.
  • Driving record must be satisfactory as per California DMV 'Pull Notice System'.
  • Color vision testing is required.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
