Overview
CB&I delivers integrated storage and asset-management solutions that help customers operate safely, reliably, and efficiently across the lifecycle of their facilities. The Tank Welder is responsible for laying out, aligning, and welding fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints and metallurgy.
Responsibilities
- Selects type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
- Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry and welding techniques.
- May use various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc and Shielded Metal Arc.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together in various body positions.
- Bolts, clamps, and welds metal components using arc and gas welding equipment.
- Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage and voltage.
- Starts power supply to produce electric current and strikes arc to melt and deposit metal.
- Manually guides electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion.
- May apply filler rod and clean or degrease weld joint or workplace.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Loads, transports, and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- May assist in lifting and securing materials during installation.
- Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
- Assists other mechanics as needed.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Ability to read a standard measuring tape.
- Access elevated work platforms and scaffolds using ladders or stairways.
- Work with precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
- Comply with all safety rules and procedures.
- Perform general labor on construction sites.
- Work in confined spaces where respirators are utilized.
- Maintain and use personal protective equipment.
