Overview
Capitol Engineering is an established and expanding custom fabrication company delivering high quality engineered & fabricated steel products to a variety of industries. They are looking to add a Quality Control Assistant to their team, requiring an experienced and detail-focused individual.
Responsibilities
- Perform in-process and final visual weld inspections on fabricated assemblies per AWS D1.1 and applicable WPS requirements.
- Evaluate welds for common deficiencies and communicate findings directly to welders.
- Verify fitup, joint prep, and material identification prior to and during welding.
- Review shop drawings and work orders to confirm compliance with dimensional and weld callouts.
- Initiate and complete Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) with objective evidence.
- Assist with NDE coordination and documentation as directed.
- Maintain inspection records, welder qualification logs, and other QMS documentation.
- Support internal audit preparation and AISC audit readiness activities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in welding, fabrication, or quality inspection in a manufacturing or structural steel environment.
- Demonstrated ability to visually assess weld quality and identify common weld defects.
- Working knowledge of weld symbols, joint types, and shop drawing interpretation.
- Familiarity with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and the ability to verify weld parameters.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate inspection records.
- Clear, professional communication skills.
Additional Information
- This is a full-time, on-site position working Monday through Friday.
- Some weekends may be required.
- Work involves regular time on the shop floor in a production environment.
