Overview

The Equipment Mechanic I position at the City of Mesa involves skilled service, maintenance, and repair work on automotive and related equipment within the Fleet Services Department and Motorcycle Shop Assignment. The role requires technical knowledge and independent judgment, with opportunities for future promotions and additional responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled service, maintenance, and repair work on automotive and related equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical problems.
  • Service heavy equipment.
  • Exercise independent judgment in determining repair methods.
  • Use appropriate safety equipment and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years as a journey-level mechanic or equivalent experience.
  • Must obtain fire apparatus EVT E-0, E-1, ASE A4, and A5 certifications within two years for Fire and Medical Assignment.
  • Three ASE certifications required within one year for Fleet Assignment.
  • Three years as a journey-level motorcycle mechanic or equivalent experience for Motorcycle Shop Assignment.
  • Must provide own basic hand tools and rollaway box.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver’s License by hire or promotion date.
  • Must meet qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
  • Motorcycle endorsement required for Motorcycle Shop Assignment.

Additional Information

  • Current vacancies include three positions in Fleet Services and one in Motorcycle Shop Assignment.
  • Employees may be assigned shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work is subject to rotational stand-by.
