Overview

The Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician III is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by performing preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as expert diagnosis and repair to enhance fleet reliability and reduce vehicle downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct FAI/CVI inspections on all fleet vehicles and company-owned equipment.
  • Execute quality preventive maintenance inspections on all fleet vehicles.
  • Carry out maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair to refrigeration units.
  • Address Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups in a timely manner.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications.
  • Document all work performed on work orders.
  • Mentor and share expertise with Fleet Technician I and II.
  • May perform moderate supervisory roles when Fleet Manager or Supervisors are unavailable.
  • Conduct electrical meter testing and complete electrical repairs as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current and valid driver's license (CDL Preferred, Not Required).
  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training.
  • 2-year school and 4 years of experience OR 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
  • Annual Inspector Certification.
  • Brake Inspector Certification.
  • ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
  • EPA section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification.
  • Expert knowledge of all vehicle systems and components.
  • Expert knowledge in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems.
  • Expert knowledge in diagnosis and repair of refrigeration systems.
  • Expert knowledge in Preventive Maintenance Inspections and repair.
  • Moderate knowledge in welding and cutting.
  • Moderate computer skills and knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) regulations.
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • Moderate knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software.
  • Must provide own tools necessary for maintenance repair and diagnostics.

Additional Information

  • Frequently works outdoors.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions.
  • Works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May occasionally be required to travel to other Operating Companies or the corporate office.
