Overview

The Roundhouse Mechanic I position involves assisting with inspections, maintenance, and repairs to various railroad equipment, including steam and diesel locomotives. The role requires teamwork, effective communication, and a commitment to safety and cleanliness in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspections, maintenance, and repairs to locomotives and related equipment.
  • Work in a team environment with other mechanics on repairs.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections on locomotives and passenger coaches.
  • Install special equipment for train safety and improvement.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure equipment is presentable.
  • Perform related duties as directed.
  • Interact professionally with the public and coworkers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in the repair and service of locomotives, automobiles, trucks, or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for servicing steam, gasoline, and diesel equipment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety standards for passenger trains and related equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in operating a variety of hand and power tools used in mechanical repairs.
