Overview

This Pipefitter position is located in the Plumbing Shop of the Wilmington VA Medical Center, involving the installation, modification, and repair of various piping systems, including steam distribution lines, medical vacuum systems, and fire protection systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair high, medium, and low-pressure steam distribution lines.
  • Plan and layout the installation of various piping systems and equipment.
  • Interpret and apply building plans and blueprints.
  • Determine placement and elevation for steam generators and other equipment.
  • Replace heat exchangers and flash tanks.
  • Use tools and equipment such as pipe threaders and cutters.
  • Perform duties in other areas of the M&R Section as needed.

Requirements

  • Evidence of training or experience in plumbing or pipefitting.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprints.
  • Knowledge of accepted trade methods for piping systems.
  • Skill in using various tools and equipment related to pipefitting.
  • Ability to perform work with minimal supervision.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm.
  • A 1-year probationary period is required.
