Overview
SpaceX is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. The Pipe Welder for the night shift is responsible for completing welding assignments safely and professionally, while working in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Complete welding assignments and procedures for construction and repair of site structural stands.
- Cut, trim, or scarf metal objects, fit and fabricate metal components to dimensions.
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations under supervision.
- Utilize hand welding and flame-cutting equipment to assemble structural forms.
- Visually inspect own welds per AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.3 with proper training.
- Obtain and maintain internal licenses, operator permits, or certifications as required.
- Make continuous efforts to improve operations and streamline work processes.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- 2+ years of experience with TIG or GTAW welding.
- 5+ years of experience using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, oxy-acetylene, fitting, and arc gouging.
- Knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, AWS/ASME codes, and engineering requirements.
- Experience with standard tools, materials, motions, and practices of the welding trade.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in relation to welding and brazing.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and effective safety precautions.
- Knowledge of arc air procedures and equipment.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities in a high-paced environment.
Additional Information
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain.
- Must be available for overtime and weekends as schedule varies.
- Typical hours are 6:00 pm – 6:00 am.
- Physical requirements include standing, sitting, pushing/pulling, lifting, climbing, kneeling, and working at heights.
