Overview

The Combo Welder 1 position offers a competitive pay rate of up to $37.00 per hour based on weld qualifications, with benefits becoming available within the first 30 days of employment. The role requires proficiency in TIG welding and the ability to certify on TIG Unlimited pipe.

Responsibilities

• Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
• Obtains specified electrode and inserts it into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
• Connects cables from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
• Starts power supply to produce electric current.
• Strikes arc to generate heat for joining edges of work piece.
• Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece as necessary.
• Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
• Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
• Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter using hand scraper or power chipper.
• Preheats work piece using hand torch or heating furnace.
• Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
• Tacks assemblies together.
• Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.
• May be designated according to type of equipment used as various types of welder.
• Passes employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
• Works in accordance with safe job practices and complies with company safety rules.
• Uses required personal protective equipment.
• Reports unsafe conditions or practices.
• Participates in safety meetings and task hazard analyses.

Requirements

• Successfully pass the on-site Weld Test.
• High school diploma or its equivalent may be required.
• Previous years of related experience preferred.

• Day and Night Shift available with a 10% night shift differential.
