Overview
As a Welding & Fabrication Technician III at Medtronic, you will leverage your advanced technical skills to support and enhance manufacturing equipment through welding and fabrication. This hands-on role emphasizes problem-solving in a collaborative environment dedicated to healthcare innovation.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of manufacturing and plant equipment.
- Diagnose equipment failures and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and electronic systems.
- Perform welding (TIG/MIG) and fabrication to repair, modify, or build equipment components, fixtures, guards, and structural elements.
- Fabricate custom parts and tooling to support production and continuous improvement initiatives using CNC machines.
- Modify or redesign mechanical systems and equipment to improve reliability, safety, and performance.
- Replace defective components and restore equipment functionality with minimal downtime.
- Interpret and work from schematics, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, welding records, and repair documentation.
- Utilize a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic/test equipment.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
- Estimate labor, materials, and equipment costs; support procurement through requisition processes.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related work experience.
- Hands-on experience with welding and fabrication in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Technical certification in welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, or related field.
- Experience with TIG and MIG welding (stainless steel and/or aluminum preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols.
- Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment in a regulated environment.
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, or automated systems.
- Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
