Overview

At Freeport-McMoRan, the Diesel Diagnostic Mechanic will work in a collaborative environment focused on safety and excellence at the Chino open-pit copper mining complex in New Mexico. The role involves performing diagnostic, maintenance, and repair tasks on heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Dozers, Loaders, and Graders.
• Remove, repair and install transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, and other heavy equipment systems.
• Conduct mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on hydraulic, power train, and engine systems.
• Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
• Maintain work orders and perform work area inspections.
• Operate mobile equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
• Perform various welding techniques including Carbon arc, Plasma, Mig, Tig, and Stick.
• Act as a Fill-in Supervisor as required.
• Train and mentor other employees.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Two years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Completion of academic and practical competencies required for the role.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments and safety standards.
• Ability to prioritize repairs and make decisions effectively.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine systems.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to read and use blueprints.
