Overview
The Instrument Fitter Journeyman is responsible for planning, laying out, installing, testing, and performing all process requirements for the installation of instrumentation in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. This position requires skilled experience in the field and involves working in a construction environment during night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Selects type and size of pipe, tube and related material according to job specification.
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and adjusts indicating, recording, tele-metering, and controlling instruments and test equipment.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs primary piping and tubing.
- Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work sites.
- May disassemble malfunctioning instruments or test equipment and examine and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
- Replaces or repairs defective parts using hand tools.
- Reassembles instrument or test equipment and tests assembly for conformance to specifications.
- Inspects instruments and test equipment periodically and adjusts calibration to ensure functioning within specified standards.
- May calibrate instruments or test equipment according to established standards.
- Installs associated support structures, components and tubing.
- Estimates sizes, distances, and quantities; or determines time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
- Inspects subordinate's work for compliance and/or deficiencies.
Requirements
- May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
- Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.
- Must have required tools.
- May require U.S. Driver License.
- Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
Additional Information
- Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions.
- Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required.
- May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.
- May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site.
