Overview

Southwest Shipyard, LP provides various services to the marine industry, including barge and boat repair. The Structural Fitter position involves fabricating, assembling, and installing metal structures according to specifications, ensuring quality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
• Work safe and maintain a safe working environment.
• Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues.
• Lay out, position, align, and fit together fabricated structural steel plate according to specifications.
• Move parts into position manually or using hoists and cranes.
• Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, grinders, or cutting torches.
• Consult with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems.
• Attend safety meetings as required.

Requirements

• Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
• Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter.
• Ability to perform simple paperwork for forms and logs.
• Good judgment skills and work initiative.
• Understanding of company Quality, Environmental & Safety manual and procedures.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Good communication skills and leadership ability, bilingual in English and Spanish.

Additional Information

• Work schedule varies by department and location.
• Day Shift: 6:00am - 3:30pm, Night Shift: 3:30pm - 12:00am.
• Overtime and/or weekend availability required.
• Location: Brady Island, 8502 Cypress St, Houston Tx 77012.
