The Machinist D position involves executing day-to-day operational needs in a machine shop for fabrication of machined parts, tools, and fixtures, while supporting the Engineering department in product development.
Responsibilities
- Perform conventional and CNC machining, milling, lathe turning, cutting, grinding, and related tasks to fabricate mechanical parts per engineering designs.
- Modify various COTS components/connectors/materials using machine shop tools to .001" precision.
- Provide technical input and engage in technical interchange with mechanical engineers on mechanical design and product assembly.
- Work from Blueprints, sketches, or Computer Aided Design (CAD) files.
- Craft precision tools used to cut, shape, and form metal and other materials.
- Demonstrate superior quality, accuracy, and thoroughness while monitoring own work.
- Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, complying with all safety laws and company policies.
- Interface and work effectively with multiple cross-functional groups including design engineering and manufacturing personnel.
- Provide basic support functions on behalf of the facilities department as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in setup and operation of CNC and hand milling machines, lathes, and other shop tools.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings designed to ASME 14.5M-1994 standard.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensions and tolerances.
- Self-starter with high energy, results-oriented, and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent cross-functional teamwork, coordination, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
