Overview
The Pipe & Structural Welder position involves performing various welding tasks including pipe and structural welding, while ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Candidates should have significant experience in welding and the ability to work in industrial environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform pipe, structural, and general welding using various equipment.
- Weld components in different positions including flat, vertical, and overhead.
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches, specifications, and work orders.
- Examine workpieces for defects and verify fit-up and alignment.
- Prepare material surfaces by removing contaminants.
- Align, clamp, position, and secure workpieces using tools and equipment.
- Set up and operate welding equipment and related tools.
- Select and install appropriate consumables based on material type.
- Grind, cut, buff, bend, chip, or clean workpieces for proper fit.
- Monitor welding processes to prevent material distortion.
- Repair fabricated or installed components as necessary.
- Mark or tag materials with job numbers and identifying information.
- Detect defective materials or faulty equipment and notify supervision.
- Support layout, fit-up, fabrication, and field installation work.
- Use access methods like ladders and scaffolding to complete work safely.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
Requirements
- 4+ years of welding experience preferred.
- Experience with pipe welding, structural welding, and industrial maintenance.
- Ability to pass applicable weld tests and site qualification requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret basic drawings and specifications.
- Experience using common welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication tools.
- Ability to work at heights and in field conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work safely as part of a crew and follow supervision.
