VLS Environmental Solutions, LLC is a leader in sustainability solutions with over 1,200 employees across North America. The Repair Field Welder will perform various barge repairs and welding duties while ensuring safety compliance and training others in welding techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform various barge repairs and welding as determined from inspections.
• Ensure all employees comply with safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
• Set welding machine for proper use and weld in all positions.
• Fit and fabricate materials for cars or special projects.
• Complete welding on critical jobs such as tank shell material, draft sill, and tank attachments.
• Weld barge inserts or cracks to meet USCG regulations.
• Supervise and assist in directing employees and workflow.
• Assist supervisor and/or leadmen in training and direction of assigned subordinates.
• Instruct others in welding techniques and safety.
• Examine welding for bead size and other specifications.
• Clean or degrease welding joint or workpiece.
• Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
• Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
• Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
• Understand and comply with all safety regulations.
• Have a basic understanding of USCG regulations, customer requirements, and VLS requirements as they pertain to repairs for Barges.
• Travel to all Marine locations as needed.

Requirements

• Qualified welder per VLS welding procedures.
• Ability to set welding machine for proper use.
• Ability to weld in all positions.
• Basic understanding of USCG regulations and VLS requirements.
