Overview

Saulsbury Industries is seeking an Estimator - Mechanical to prepare and take ownership of cost estimating for bids and project proposals, focusing on identifying risks and opportunities while maintaining a winning strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates based on scope of work, blueprints, specifications, and other documentation.
  • Apply work hour unit rates for each item in the estimate to generate overall direct work hours.
  • Understand construction equipment and temporary facilities requirements.
  • Assist in soliciting quotes from material and equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and specified manufacturers.
  • Distribute and maintain control of bid documents.
  • Identify special client or project requirements for weather protection and other services.
  • Analyze project location and productivity associated with the location.
  • Review labor costs and applicable licensing requirements.
  • Ensure all bid forms are completed and properly executed.
  • Facilitate bid review meetings with management to finalize bids.
  • Coordinate with other departments during the bid process.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience with industrial civil, structural steel, process equipment, and piping estimating.
  • Working knowledge of estimating software; MC2 is a plus.
  • Competitive bid experience in petro-chemical, power, gas processing, refining, and other heavy industrial facilities.
  • Construction field experience is highly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards.
  • Knowledge of estimating best practices.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional, ethical, and a team player willing to grow with the company.

Additional Information

  • Location: Odessa, TX / Abilene TX / Houston, TX
  • Overtime may be required to meet work demands.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit 1/3 to 2/3’s of the scheduled work shift.
  • Office environment with low to moderate noise levels.
  • Required to observe construction progress outdoors over rough or uneven terrain.
