Overview
The Welder position at Orion involves providing yard maintenance support, including welding, cutting, grinding, and clean-up for marine yard support projects. The role emphasizes safety, quality, delivery, and teamwork, guided by the company's core values.
Responsibilities
- Work as assigned by the Welding Shop Foreman to complete marine yard support projects.
- Gather information on the scope of work and obtain necessary permits before starting welding projects.
- Cut, weld, chip, and grind metal as required by the project.
- Utilize oxygen-acetylene cutting torch and related equipment for cutting metal.
- Weld together pieces of sheet metal after pile driving.
- Stick rod weld in all positions to complete jobs.
- Rig cables for lifting and moving objects.
- Handle placement of steel plates and sheet piles using cranes and hand tools.
- Operate saws, presses, drills, and grinders to fabricate parts.
- Inspect and make minor repairs to welding equipment.
- Pick up materials and supplies for projects.
- Collaborate with various team members to complete projects safely and efficiently.
- Participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years welding experience or equivalent training.
- Knowledge of welding practices and materials.
- Understanding of physical characteristics of metals used in marine structures.
- Ability to operate various marine equipment and devices.
- Proficiency in stick rod welding, acetylene and arc welding equipment, and hand tools.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Ability to keep simple records of time and materials used.
