Job Description

Overview

The Iron Worker position involves assembling, erecting, connecting, and welding steel projects at the San Antonio Main division. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of welding experience and be proficient in construction methods and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehend scopes of work per plans and specifications to complete job assignments.
  • Assemble hoisting equipment and rigging to move heavy equipment and materials.
  • Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding.
  • Drive drift pins through rivet holes to align structural-steel members.
  • Erect metal and pre-cast concrete components for building structures.
  • Fasten structural-steel members to hoist cables using chains, cables, or rope.
  • Force structural-steel members into final positions using various tools.
  • Hoist steel beams, girders, and columns into place using cranes.
  • Pull, push, or pry structural-steel members into approximate positions for bolting.
  • Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members.
  • Cut, bend, and weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.
  • Dismantle structures and equipment as needed.
  • Install fiberglass building insulation, metal cladding, and siding.
  • Fabricate metal parts according to blueprints or instructions.
  • Operate equipment including forklifts, backhoe, skid steer, and excavator.
  • Ensure compliance with Turner standards, safety codes, and jobsite security.
  • Display teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership.
  • Participate in daily Pre-Task Plans and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Ensure security of equipment and work area.
  • Identify and escalate problems to supervisor.
  • Track production of completed tasks.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers and contractors.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Structural Welding Certification as required.
  • Proficient knowledge of materials, methods, and tools in construction.
  • Ability to understand and interpret construction documents and specifications.
  • Proficient use of related tools to complete work assignments.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and basic geometry.
  • Ability to measure and convey lengths with high accuracy.
  • Critical thinking and good judgment to solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to travel and accommodate night and weekend work as needed.
