Overview
As a Fitter on the second shift, you will be responsible for assembling and fitting miscellaneous steel components according to technical drawings and blueprints, ensuring that they meet design specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Weld steel members.
- Move steel members into positions manually or with hoists or cranes.
- Position, align, fit, and track weld parts to form complete units or subunits following blueprints and layout specifications.
- Determine appropriate method and sequence of tasks to fabricate items efficiently.
- Coach and train lower-level fitters to help them advance in their skill sets.
- Assist foreman and managers maintain consistent workflow and production on the shop floor.
- Ensure all peers are following safety policies.
- Conduct thorough quality checks to identify and rectify defects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is a plus.
- Two years experience in steel fabrication or welding.
- Basic proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and basic metalworking machinery.
- Ability to interpret simple technical drawings and blueprints.
- Advanced skills in welding, including intricate welding tasks using various techniques.
- Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
- Developing a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks.
- Openness to learning and acquiring new skills.
