Overview

Xcel Energy is seeking a Blacksmith - Welder in Charge for their Maple Grove Service Center in Maple Grove, MN. This senior-level position involves complex welding, fabrication, and repair work on utility equipment, while also providing leadership and oversight to other workers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced welding, cutting, heating, and metal fabrication using various methods.
  • Repair, rebuild, and fabricate components used in electric utility systems.
  • Operate shop equipment such as presses, shears, and brakes.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of assigned employees on specific jobs.
  • Serve as the designated 'in charge' employee on off-site assignments.
  • Ensure work is completed safely and efficiently according to procedures.
  • Communicate job expectations and safety requirements to crew members.
  • Plan and organize work activities within assigned scope.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Follow all company safety rules and applicable work procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent experience as a Blacksmith/Welder.
  • Demonstrated journeyman-level proficiency in welding, fabrication, and metal repair.
  • Must hold current GTAW, SMAW, GMAW/FCAW, and Torch Brazing certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Must meet driver qualification requirements and obtain a valid Class A CDL within six months of hire.
  • This position is subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home as business needs require.
  • Must be willing to respond to callouts and work overtime as needed.
  • Experience with crane operation and/or rigging.

Additional Information

  • The position will be posted for 10 Working Days from June 15, 2026, to June 26, 2026.
  • The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $61.76 per hour.
