Overview
The Welding Kitter / Material Handler supports welding and fabrication operations by pulling, staging, and delivering materials to production workstations. This role is essential for ensuring that welders have the necessary materials to meet production schedules while maintaining inventory accuracy and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Pull, kit, and stage materials for welding jobs based on production schedules and work orders.
- Read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing documentation to identify required materials.
- Review and verify bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure all required materials are available.
- Deliver materials and welding consumables to workstations in a timely manner.
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages.
- Perform inventory transactions and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory activities.
- Verify material quantities and part numbers using counting and measuring processes.
- Communicate material shortages and production concerns to supervisors.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Support 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–3 years of experience in material handling, warehousing, or manufacturing preferred.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification required.
- Experience in a metal fabrication or industrial environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of material handling practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes or hoists.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and shipping documents.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints and drawings.
- Basic math and counting skills required for inventory verification.
- Experience maintaining accurate inventory records preferred.
- Knowledge of metal fabrication and welding processes preferred.
- Strong organizational skills for efficient material storage.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling inventory.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of shop safety rules and PPE requirements.
