Overview
The Automatic Welder position involves performing automatic welding and gouging operations on various components and products, ensuring compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Setup, adjust, and operate all types of automatic welding equipment in accordance with the proper Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
- Ensure automatic welding is capable of passing RT and UT requirements.
- Perform pre-heat and post-heat operations when required.
- Perform all types of gouging operations as required.
- Check out and transport welding material and flux to/from the welding areas.
- Maintain accurate welding and material records.
- Report abnormal conditions of equipment to Foreman.
- Work in a safe manner and comply with safety rules and procedures.
- Perform small repairs and preventative maintenance on automatic welding equipment.
- Assist in placing and removing pieces, components, and products to/from the welding area.
- Operate jib cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment for moving material and components.
- Perform general laborer duties as required.
- Keep working area clean and perform housekeeping duties around the plant.
Requirements
- Required to pass ASME Code welding test requirements.
- Capable of reading and understanding Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Working knowledge of different types of cutting equipment.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs. up to waist.
- Requires 18 months minimum of job-related work experience.

- Exposure to fumes, smoke, glare, and heat.
- Possible exposure to weld flash and/or burn.
- Close visual and mental attention required.
- Exposure to normal shop noises of grinding, chipping, and repair operations.
- Moderate physical exertion required when handling pieces or components.
