Overview
The Equipment Mechanic position involves performing skilled work in maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles and heavy equipment for Scott County. The role requires flexibility to work weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and perform mechanical and electrical repairs on various vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and test drives to ensure repairs are effective.
- Repair, install, modify, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems.
- Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication repairs.
- Replace essential vehicle components such as flywheels and drivetrains.
- Inspect and repair braking and electrical systems.
- Rebuild and replace starters, generators, and transmissions.
- Maintain and repair automatic and manual transmissions.
- Install and repair various vehicle accessories and equipment.
- Mount and remove snow and ice control equipment.
- Document repair orders detailing parts used and labor hours.
- Utilize computers for work assignments and inventory tracking.
- Maintain cleanliness of the shop area and equipment.
- Wash and clean vehicles.
- Adhere to assigned work hours and perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED plus one year of post-secondary education.
- Valid driver's license.
- Three years of experience in repairing and maintaining vehicles and heavy equipment, including diesel engines.
- Obtain a Class B CDL within 18 months and a Class A CDL within 24 months of hire.
- MN Vehicle Inspector and Air-Conditioning Systems certifications within 12 months of hire.
