Job Description

Overview

The Welder Fitter will lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural and miscellaneous metals, such as beams, columns, and stairs railings. The role requires strong skills in reading drawings and transferring that information to the layout table.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies using various welding equipment.
  • Cuts workpieces using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knives.
  • Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Removes rough spots from workpieces using grinders or hand files.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts using hand tools or welding equipment.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout and welding operations.
  • Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Determines required equipment and welding methods based on knowledge of metallurgy and welding techniques.
