Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic position is a Safety-Sensitive role responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing various vehicles and equipment within the city. The role requires effective communication and the ability to perform repairs in diverse conditions, including emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy duty trucks and various equipment.
- Diagnose and repair systems including brakes, cooling systems, and engines.
- Perform road calls for repairs at various city locations.
- Inspect and service fluid levels, hoses, belts, and brakes.
- Conduct emergency repairs on fire and rescue apparatus.
- Enter data and parts into repair orders.
- Fabricate and modify equipment using welding and cutting tools.
- Operate a Powered Industrial Truck to transport materials.
- Troubleshoot and repair advanced electrical systems.
- Work in all weather conditions and respond to natural disasters.
- Participate in on-call and standby duties.
- Perform other assigned work.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- One year of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or closely related.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required or ability to obtain within one year.
- Certification by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or ability to obtain within one year.
- Ability to operate a Powered Industrial Truck.
- Ability to complete employer-provided certification training.
