Overview
The Railcar Repairman (Carman) position in Flint, MI involves repairing, modifying, and upgrading rail cars, as well as performing mechanical labor and operating various tools and equipment. TTX Company is a leading provider of railcars and related freight car management services in North America.
Responsibilities
- Repairs, modifies, and upgrades rail cars.
- Rebuilds car components such as bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors.
- Welds, fabricates, and uses a cutting torch.
- Performs mechanical labor frequently.
- Repairs and maintains railcars according to blueprints and specifications using hand tools and power tools.
- Operates a forklift to move and align parts.
- Measures, cuts, threads pipes, and replaces air lines using hand tools.
- Assembles subassemblies and major components, checking for proper operation.
- Repairs broken parts using hand tools and welding equipment.
- Enters car repair information via electronic keyboard system.
Requirements
- Knowledge of mechanical skills.
- Skills in welding and cutting.
- Intermediate decision-making and reasoning abilities.
- Limited planning and scheduling skills.
- Intermediate short-term memory for compiling and classifying information.
