Overview

The WG-10 Maintenance Mechanic - Pipefitter position at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center involves performing a variety of tasks related to the upkeep and repair of buildings, grounds, and utilities. The incumbent will engage in journeyman level pipefitting work and assist other journeymen within the Engineering Service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman level pipefitter work and assist other journeymen as needed.
  • Conduct visual examinations and work layout to determine repair needs.
  • Plan and execute new fabrication, installation, and construction.
  • Repair piping or associated equipment for complex systems.
  • Disassemble complex devices for internal repairs.
  • Program computer-operated systems such as lawn sprinkler and fuel oil systems.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, schematics, and manuals.
  • Prepare requests for parts, materials, tools, and services.
  • Size, layout, and integrate systems for HVAC operation.
  • Use shop mathematics for pipe sizing and connections.
  • Perform pipe welding for high-pressure and high-temperature systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on contaminated drain systems.
  • Troubleshoot steam distribution and various water and gas systems.
  • Operate equipment such as threading machines, welding machines, and pipe cutting machines.
