Overview

The Pipefitter position is located in the Plumbing Shop of the Wilmington VA Medical Center, involving the installation, modification, and repair of various piping systems including steam distribution lines, medical vacuum systems, and fire protection systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, modify, and repair high, medium, and low-pressure steam distribution lines.
• Plan and layout the installation of various piping systems and equipment.
• Interpret and apply building plans and blueprints.
• Use shop mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles.
• Determine placement and elevation for steam generators and pumps.
• Replace heat exchangers and expansion tanks.
• Install proper braces and supports for pipes and valves.
• Perform duties in other areas of the M&R Section as needed.

Requirements

• Knowledge of high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
• Ability to layout and install various kinds of piping and risers.
• Skill in using tools and equipment such as measuring tapes and pipe wrenches.
• Ability to interpret building plans and blueprints.
