Overview
We are seeking a Welder A to join our team at Great Western Iron Works. In this role, you will utilize safe practices and procedural requirements while interpreting weld procedure specifications and engineered drawings to tack and weld structural components.
Responsibilities
- Identify, prevent, and correct potential safety hazards in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Identify and prepare materials for welding based on specifications and engineered drawings.
- Perform welding on components and assemblies using GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes.
- Use equipment such as chop saws, band saws, and oxy/fuel torches to cut workpieces.
- Heat, form, and dress metal parts using hand tools, torches, or arc welding equipment.
- Achieve a pass rate of 98% or higher for all CJP and PJP weldments.
- Move and position materials with handling equipment.
- Inspect equipment and structural components to ensure alignment with processes and procedures.
Requirements
- Ability to pass 3G FCAW, 2G FCAW, and 2F D1.3 GMAW weld tests.
- In-depth knowledge of oxy/fuel operations, welding processes, shop machinery, and repair procedures for welding discontinuities.
- Ability to identify weld discontinuities and apply basic repair procedures.
- Proficient in interpreting blueprints and understanding welding techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of weld procedure specifications and weld symbols.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and jib cranes.
- Possess all necessary tools to effectively perform welding and fabrication tasks.
- Ability to multi-task, demonstrate punctuality, and maintain a strong work ethic.
