Overview

Optimized Process Designs (OPD), a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a Welding / Mechanical Engineering Associate to join their Mechanical Engineering department. This role involves a mix of Welding and Mechanical duties and offers an excellent opportunity to grow engineering knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance OPD specifications to ensure compliance with industry best practices, codes, and standards.
  • Develop internal-use tools to improve efficiency and accuracy of engineering deliverables.
  • Review client standards related to welding documentation and equipment inspection and test plans.
  • Create and update welding procedures to meet code and customer requirements.
  • Create project-specific and general welding documentation outlining requirements and best practices.
  • Review sub-contractor welding procedures for compliance with industry codes and client requirements.
  • Develop equipment specifications and vet Request for Quote (RFQ) packages.
  • Conduct technical reviews of vendor quotes, including pre-purchase evaluations.
  • Provide Project Managers with guidance on design, purchase, installation, and post-construction support for mechanical equipment.
  • Participate in reviews of project documentation, such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Develop pipe specifications and project-specific requirements for Post-Weld Heat Treat (PWHT) and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE).
  • Provide technical support for field construction personnel, including site visits.
  • Offer commissioning/start-up support and Request for Information (RFI) assistance.
  • Address welding concerns as they arise in the field or at subcontractors' shops.

Requirements

  • BS in welding engineering, mechanical engineering, or other applicable engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing procedure qualification records and welding procedure specifications.
  • Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW.
  • Basic understanding of industry codes (ASME, API, AWS, NACE).

Additional Information

  • This role will sit in office Monday - Friday at our headquarters in Katy, TX.
