Overview

Wärtsilä is seeking an entry-level In-Situ Machining Technician in Houston, TX, to join their Parts and Field Service organization. This role focuses on developing technical skills in a workshop environment with the long-term goal of transitioning into field service assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to workshop service tasks including overhauls, reconditioning, modification, cleaning, and machining of engine components.
  • Perform maintenance, redesign, upgrades, and machining work on in-situ equipment and tools.
  • Support customer field service projects by providing accurate and timely workshop services.
  • Carry out milling, tuning, tool maintenance and repairs, packing of tooling, calibration, fabrication, and related activities.
  • Manage and track tool inventory, including in-situ machining and measuring tools.
  • Prepare, maintain, and coordinate tools and equipment for workshop and field use.
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety rules and Wartsila Health & Safety standards.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with Wartsila quality standards.
  • Perform proactive preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Support minor travel assignments as required.
  • Provide internal and external work reports according to Wartsila standards.
  • Collect, submit, and organize time and expense reports.
  • Act as an integral part of the In-Situ Machining team, supporting common goals and deadlines.
  • Maintain a flexible and positive attitude toward ad-hoc duties.

Requirements

  • Technical education or vocational training in machining, mechanical engineering, industrial mechanics, or a related field.
  • Entry-level role; previous workshop, machining, or mechanical experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Strong safety mindset and willingness to follow Wartsila ways of working.
  • Interest in machining, tools, engines, and mechanical equipment.
  • Hands-on attitude with willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and follow procedures.
  • Team-oriented mindset with flexibility to support changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel in the future.
  • Ability to perform physical work in workshop and industrial environments.

Additional Information

  • The position is permanent and located in Houston, TX.
  • Some domestic travel may be required, estimated travel: 40%.
