Job Description

Overview

Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure a continuous human presence in space, and is looking for a Welder and Fabrication Technician II to support the development of systems for artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This role involves welding, operating robotic equipment, and collaborating with engineering to improve processes.

Responsibilities

  • Weld the Haven Structure for human spaceflight
  • Operate mechanized and robotic welding equipment
  • Quickly fabricate and weld tooling to support Haven
  • Inspect fabricated parts for geometry acceptance and weld conformance
  • Fit, form, and clean parts as required and set up welding equipment
  • Perform Class A quality aluminum welds
  • Diagnose weld defects and suggest corrective actions
  • Work with engineering to improve tools and problem solve
  • Handle materials of raw goods and finished weldments
  • Use a variety of metal fabrication equipment

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with Class A TIG welding
  • 2+ years of fabrication and forming experience
  • Self-starter and highly motivated in a fast-paced environment
  • Automated/robotic welding experience preferred
  • 5+ years of Class A aerospace welding experience preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Familiarity with x-ray technicians and NDT techniques
  • Experience reading engineering blueprints
