Overview
Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure a continuous human presence in space, and is looking for a Welder and Fabrication Technician II to support the development of systems for artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This role involves welding, operating robotic equipment, and collaborating with engineering to improve processes.
Responsibilities
- Weld the Haven Structure for human spaceflight
- Operate mechanized and robotic welding equipment
- Quickly fabricate and weld tooling to support Haven
- Inspect fabricated parts for geometry acceptance and weld conformance
- Fit, form, and clean parts as required and set up welding equipment
- Perform Class A quality aluminum welds
- Diagnose weld defects and suggest corrective actions
- Work with engineering to improve tools and problem solve
- Handle materials of raw goods and finished weldments
- Use a variety of metal fabrication equipment
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience with Class A TIG welding
- 2+ years of fabrication and forming experience
- Self-starter and highly motivated in a fast-paced environment
- Automated/robotic welding experience preferred
- 5+ years of Class A aerospace welding experience preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Familiarity with x-ray technicians and NDT techniques
- Experience reading engineering blueprints
