Overview

The Welder operator welds together metal components and is responsible for interpreting blueprints, operating welding equipment, and ensuring a clean work area. Responsibilities

• Interprets blueprints and work orders to determine work to be done.
• Visually inspects parts; places parts with work order and routes to next work center.
• Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
• Cleans work area daily.
• Troubleshoots problems with equipment; monitors equipment to ensure functioning properly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; one to three years previous welding experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to apply basic shop math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure.
• Ability to work with close tolerances.
• Ability to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations with management and co-workers.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, work orders, and memos.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and procedures.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to operate equipment used in the department, including measuring devices, welder, disk and belt sander, pneumatic tools, and hand tools.
• Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner and to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
• Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
• Exhibits dependability, including following instructions and responding to supervisor’s direction.
• Ability to take initiative and perform work independently.
• Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently.
