Overview
The Welder operator welds together metal components and is responsible for interpreting blueprints, operating welding equipment, and ensuring a clean work area. Responsibilities
- Interprets blueprints and work orders to determine work to be done.
- Visually inspects parts; places parts with work order and routes to next work center.
- Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
- Cleans work area daily.
- Troubleshoots problems with equipment; monitors equipment to ensure functioning properly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; one to three years previous welding experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to apply basic shop math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure.
- Ability to work with close tolerances.
- Ability to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations with management and co-workers.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, work orders, and memos.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and procedures.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to operate equipment used in the department, including measuring devices, welder, disk and belt sander, pneumatic tools, and hand tools.
- Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner and to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
- Exhibits dependability, including following instructions and responding to supervisor’s direction.
- Ability to take initiative and perform work independently.
