Overview

The Fabricator is responsible for making, repairing, adapting, and rectifying tools and mechanical equipment with high precision under direct supervision. This role involves interpreting blueprints, operating mechanical tools, and modifying dies to conform to engineering changes.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly.
  • Examines work pieces for defects and measures them to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Verifies conformance of work pieces to specifications using various measuring tools.
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or assemble components.
  • May position, align, fit and weld parts to form complete units or subunits.
  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
  • Keeps work area clean.
  • Studies engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of monitoring gauges and indicators to ensure machine operation.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and its application.
