Overview

Bechtel is seeking a Lead Welding Field Engineer to manage field and subcontractor welding programs, ensuring compliance and resource availability for planned work scopes. The company has a long history of delivering successful projects globally, focusing on infrastructure and technology markets.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain Bechtel Field Welding program, potentially as Lead Field Welding Engineer on large projects.
  • Provide specialized welding engineering support for construction to meet all code, client/engineering specifications, and Bechtel procedures.
  • Assist in managing the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program.
  • Manage the rod room to ensure all weld filler materials meet Bechtel, Code, and Client requirements.
  • Schedule and coordinate NDE with construction and subcontractors for efficiency.
  • Monitor the welding test lab to ensure high-quality welders are tested and hired.
  • Review and update weld documents to ensure the credibility of the Welding Program.
  • Manage welder qualifications and welder stamps.
  • Perform field inspections of welding work and advise on quality behaviors and defects.
  • Lead the implementation of the subcontractors and direct hire Pre/PWHT program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
  • NDE Certs including PT, MT and LT (Vac Box).
  • Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW / GTAW / GMAW / FCAW.
  • Intermediate understanding of Preheat/Post weld heat treatment.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods.
  • Ability to motivate team members effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations.
  • Experience on an LNG construction site along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
  • Strong technical background in LNG welding applications and methods.
  • Understanding of Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Piping Design Drawings/Specifications.
  • Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's NDE Level II Visual Examination requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's Welding Program and related documentation.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) used on projects.
