Overview

Bechtel is seeking a Welding Field Engineer to maintain the field welding program and provide engineering support in Chandler, AZ. The role involves ensuring compliance with project requirements and contributing to high-quality welding operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains Bechtel Field Welding program for all welding operations.
  • Provides technical assistance to field superintendents and crafts.
  • Provides welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all code, specifications, and Bechtel procedures.
  • Provides technical knowledge for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed and fabricated items.
  • Supports managing pre- and post-weld heat treatment program whether self-performed by Bechtel or subcontracted.
  • Coordinates the rod room and rod room attendants to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled and meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
  • Coordinates the welding test lab to ensure high quality welders are being tested and hired.
  • Works with craft to maintain welding documentation and ensure the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of welder qualifications and welder stamps.
  • Assists in the field inspections of welding work to ensure workmanship and materials are in conformance with project requirements.

Requirements

  • Requires a University Hire with 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must have the ability to take and pass Bechtel’s Level II VT.
  • Knowledge of basic construction principles.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s 'Zero Accidents' safety program.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Possess a high degree of individual initiative, flexibility, diplomacy, and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn new processes, procedures, and software.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and easily adjust priorities.
  • Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as UPC, IBC, SMACNA, ASME, AWS, and NFPA.
  • Good working knowledge of welding technical and practical applications such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW STT.
  • Good working knowledge of Preheat/Post Weld Heat Treatments, equipment, and consumables.
