Overview
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of the Martin Marietta Ready-Mix fleet and mobile equipment, ensuring that all machinery is maintained to the highest safety and performance standards. The role focuses on maximizing equipment uptime and operational efficiency through preventative maintenance and corrective repairs.
Responsibilities
- Utilize advanced computer diagnostic software and precision measuring tools to troubleshoot complex engines, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnose and repair specialized Ready-Mix equipment, including hydraulic mixer drums, discharge chutes, and computerized batch-control sensors.
- Conduct thorough inspections and repairs on truck air brake systems and steering/suspension components in accordance with DOT and company regulations.
- Execute routine PM services (oil changes, filter replacements, greasing) on a fleet of Ready-Mix trucks and support equipment.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform preventative maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Troubleshoot and rewire electrical systems.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools as needed.
- Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify potential wear or damage.
- Monitor and replace wear items such as rollers, liners, and hoses to ensure the longevity of the mixer units.
- Utilize welding (Stick/MIG) and cutting torches to repair truck frames, mixer drums, and plant-related stationary equipment.
- Accurately complete work orders, parts requests, and maintenance logs via digital or manual tracking systems.
- Assist in monitoring parts inventory and identifying required supplies to prevent maintenance delays.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment and assist in the disposal of hazardous materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience, Trade School or appropriate Certifications.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in heavy equipment or on-highway truck maintenance.
- Direct experience with Ready-Mix concrete trucks and their specialized hydraulic/mechanical components is a significant advantage.
- General knowledge of heavy equipment operations, systems and components (engines, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic), repair methods, and common issues.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance.
- Familiarity with LOTO lockout/tagout procedures.
- Mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Effective communication skills (written and spoken).
