Overview
The LRV Structural Mechanic position involves performing structural repairs and refurbishments on light rail vehicles for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Fleet Services Division. The role requires a combination of technical skills and safety compliance to ensure the vehicles meet operational standards.
Responsibilities
- Repair LRV vehicles damaged in accidents using sheet metal, structural steel, and other materials.
- Use metalwork machines and tools to fabricate structural components such as posts, flooring, and roof panels.
- Prepare vehicles for painting, including applying body fillers and sanding.
- Operate and maintain paint application equipment.
- Replace interior and undercar wiring as required.
- Perform inspections and polish LRVs as needed.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associates Degree in Structural Body Repair Technology or equivalent certification.
- Must obtain and maintain relevant certifications as per state and federal regulations.
- Valid Drivers License class C, with ability to obtain Texas class C within 90 days.
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and drug tests.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Ability to work safely and maintain alertness.
- Excellent customer service skills and effective communication abilities.
- Ability to work variable shifts and be mobile for 70% - 80% of the time.

- Works in an environment with exposure to dust, noise, and temperature.
- May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
