Overview

The LRV Structural Mechanic position involves performing structural repairs and refurbishments on light rail vehicles for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Fleet Services Division. The role requires a combination of technical skills and safety compliance to ensure the vehicles meet operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Repair LRV vehicles damaged in accidents using sheet metal, structural steel, and other materials.
  • Use metalwork machines and tools to fabricate structural components such as posts, flooring, and roof panels.
  • Prepare vehicles for painting, including applying body fillers and sanding.
  • Operate and maintain paint application equipment.
  • Replace interior and undercar wiring as required.
  • Perform inspections and polish LRVs as needed.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Structural Body Repair Technology or equivalent certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain relevant certifications as per state and federal regulations.
  • Valid Drivers License class C, with ability to obtain Texas class C within 90 days.
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and drug tests.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work safely and maintain alertness.
  • Excellent customer service skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Ability to work variable shifts and be mobile for 70% - 80% of the time.

Additional Information

  • Works in an environment with exposure to dust, noise, and temperature.
  • May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
