Overview
The Mechanic's Assistant at North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) supports maintenance staff in the upkeep of wastewater facilities and systems, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Responsibilities
- Collaborates with Mechanics and Plant Operators for maintenance and renewal of treatment assets.
- Evaluates equipment performance through observation and instrumentation.
- Assists in routine maintenance and emergency repairs of machinery and equipment.
- Performs rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, and mechanical duties.
- Notifies personnel of needed repairs and assists in planning maintenance procedures.
- Follows job plans to ensure safe work practices.
- Monitors facility security and alerts appropriate personnel.
- Assists with facility grounds maintenance and housekeeping.
- Participates in a culture of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
- Observes safety guidelines and mitigates safety hazards.
- Transports and receives equipment and shipments.
- Maintains logs and records in written and electronic form.
- Creates and resolves service requests using CMMS (Maximo).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; an associate degree or trade certification is preferred.
- Basic mechanical, electrical, technology, and operations aptitude required.
- Experience in wastewater operations or maintenance is strongly preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Preference for a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater or Water Treatment or Collection or Distribution System Operator's License.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge in chemical safety and response procedures, including a certificate in hazardous materials.
