Overview

The Mechanic's Assistant at North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) supports maintenance staff in the upkeep of wastewater facilities and systems, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Mechanics and Plant Operators for maintenance and renewal of treatment assets.
• Evaluates equipment performance through observation and instrumentation.
• Assists in routine maintenance and emergency repairs of machinery and equipment.
• Performs rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, and mechanical duties.
• Notifies personnel of needed repairs and assists in planning maintenance procedures.
• Follows job plans to ensure safe work practices.
• Monitors facility security and alerts appropriate personnel.
• Assists with facility grounds maintenance and housekeeping.
• Participates in a culture of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
• Observes safety guidelines and mitigates safety hazards.
• Transports and receives equipment and shipments.
• Maintains logs and records in written and electronic form.
• Creates and resolves service requests using CMMS (Maximo).
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; an associate degree or trade certification is preferred.
• Basic mechanical, electrical, technology, and operations aptitude required.
• Experience in wastewater operations or maintenance is strongly preferred.
• Ability to comprehend and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Preference for a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater or Water Treatment or Collection or Distribution System Operator's License.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge in chemical safety and response procedures, including a certificate in hazardous materials.
